Version 0.3.2 is Live with the Sorcerer!

Hi All,

I'm excited to share with you all the newest version of Forged in the Dungeon!

The big takeaways are the following.

  • The Sorcerer Class has been added!
  • Harm penalties are applied once the row is full and are applied to all actions
  • The Engagement Roll has been removed and instead adventurers go straight into the dungeon once everyone has taken part in the prep montage
  • How Scars are added/selected has changed
  • The Ranger Feat "I've Seen This Before" has been replaced with "A Safe Place"
  • The number inventory slots that are cleared with a coin has been reduced from six to four

For more detail on all the changes keep on reading.

The Sorcerer has been in development for some time now and I finally got it different enough compared to the Wizard. If the wizard is someone who studies magic the sorcerer is someone born with magic. As such they can manipulate magic by combining and breaking down inventory slots to cast any spell they know. The downside though is they do not learn as many spells compared to other magic casters. Though they are currently the only class that can cast level four spells, which are pretty powerful. Overall I really like the sorcerer class and the other feats you can pick from that reinforce they are a vessel of magic. Let me know what you think of the class!

I finally formally changed the harm rules to the rules my regular group used to play with. The back and forth of evaluating every harm to every action was time consuming and too finicky. Being able to look at if the row is full or not and just taking the penalty or not for all actions is a much quicker experience.

Engagement Rolls have been removed. Through a lot of play tests it turned out to be too swingy for the players. To ensure forward momentum and reduce overplanning everyone participates in a montage preparing for the adventure.  Every player does one thing prior to heading out, be it gathering information, getting special equipment, calling on aid, etc. Once everyone has done one action the GM moves them straight into the "dungeon".

One thing I really enjoy about this change is that it gives every player ample opportunity to flashback during the adventure that may be related to the time frame when they were taking their one action.

When you take a scar add the new scar condition to your character sheet. The scar should be written as such "I'm _____ of/by/to/about/with/in ______." Example first words are obsessed, paranoid, haunted, vicious, cold, reckless, soft, scared, etc. The second blank should be related to what caused the scar, but does not have to be. An example being "I'm paranoid about opening doors."

It was observed through play, and listening to others play Forged in the Dark games, that many times scars were a result of a specific incident and that players would act out that scar based on that incident. I wanted to codify that association of that scar to that event, and help players remember why they had scar in general. I'm still not 100% sure if this is the right way but want to see how it works for others in the public. Let me know how it goes for you!

Due to the removal of the Engagement Roll the Ranger's feat "I've Seen This Before" was not applicable anymore. So I added "A Safe Place" which makes Make Camp more efficient for the Ranger. I feel there are many opportunities to mess around with Make Camp and this the first go at it from a Class Feat perspective.

Through play testing I noticed that the guild had too many coins for my liking at the end of an adventure plus downtime maintenance. So I decreased how many inventory slots are repaired with a coin in hopes of reducing the amount of coins the guild ends up having.

Gen Con

I wanted to share with you all that I will be at Gen Con again this year running Forged in the Dungeon. However, I will be running under Games on Demand. I'll let you know what time slots I'll be running the game when I know.

That's all for now, enjoy the new content!

Have Fun!

Josh
